Keyword Research is a Necessity
Many webmasters want high search engine rankings for keywords. It’s not very easy to get sales from the search engines if you pick the wrong keywords. If you want success online, keyword research is definitely necessary. If you ignore keyword research for a website, you are setting yourself up to fail.
Many website owners that fail after a few months usually recommend using long tail keywords to start. If you want to rank well and make money, then long tail keywords may actually waste your time. Many keywords that are long tail never get searched at all. Some long tail keywords that people use never get searched at all.
To make money online, you should find the keywords that are getting searched but don’t have a lot of competition. It does not matter whether they are long tail or not. The length of a keyword does not indicate how competitive it is. There are many long tail keywords that are being optimized by a lot of people, which leads to it being harder to rank well.
I will tell you how I do my keyword research. I look for keywords that I would want to rank well for. Secondly, I use a keyword research tool called Keyword Elite and I find how much each keyword gets search per month. I stay away from the Google Keyword Tool because I believe it gives a higher search volume than it really is.
Next, I do a search in the search engine for the keywords that get good search traffic. I then use Yahoo Site explorer to analyze the number one ranked websites and their backlinks. After putting the website into Yahoo for analyzing, I check to see how many links the site has with the search keyword.
If the links are not the keyword search term, then I know that the website owner in the first position is relatively clueless. The webmaster doesn’t know much about search engine optimization, and I will be able to outrank the site with relevant backlinks and time.
Most people think it’s going to be much harder than it really is to rank well. You have to understand that most website owners don’t even know anything about search engine optimization. It is pretty easy to take the number one ranking and start earning money, if you find the right keywords.
